Little, Brown Books for Young Readers and The Blair Partnership are delighted to announce an exciting new children’s book project with Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard.
Frankie’s Magic Football follows the adventures of school boy Frankie, his football-loving friends and trusty pet dog Max as they battle baddies from fantasy worlds and learn valuable lessons, both on the pitch and off.
“I first had the idea of Frankie and his Magic Football when reading stories to my own children. Sport and reading are two essentials for us at home, so I decided to make up my own football stories and adventures. The characters are loosely based on friends and team mates I’ve played with over the years. I am delighted that Little Brown liked the stories as much as my children and will be publishing the Frankie’s Magic Football series.”
The first book in the Frankie’s Magic Football series, Frankie versus the Pirate Pillagers, will debut in June 2013. Two more titles, Frankie versus the Rowdy Romans and Frankie versus the Mummy’s Menace are scheduled for 2013 with a further two slated for early 2014.
Editorial Director Samantha Smith says, ‘We couldn’t imagine a better fit for this developmentally important area of children’s publishing than Frank. It’s crucial to get kids excited about reading at an early age and Frank’s vision for a series about friendship, football and fun will do just that. We think it’s brilliant and we’re sure readers – and parents – will agree’.
The Blair Partnership Agents Neil Blair and Zoe King say: ‘The Frankie’s Magic Football stories are hugely fun and entertaining; full of loveable characters on wacky adventures. Great things are destined for this series.’
The series will be illustrated by acclaimed children’s illustrator Mike Jackson (who was also an animator for Shrek).
